Great read - direct, practical, and full of powerful insights.
A thought on Bank of America's $1B pledge: In 2017 BOA collected over $1.6B in overdraft fees. Similar amounts were collected in 2018 and 2019. Research has shown that overdraft fees are disproportionately billed to communities and businesses of color - despite accounts in overdraft not being isolated to those communities or businesses.
With their $1B pledge, BOA is essentially giving Black communities and Black businesses one year's worth of the money they collected largley from Black communities and Black businesses. While the commitment is greater than we've seen from other institutions, I hesitate to appauld their external efforts without seeing how they plan to dismantle the internal business sturctures that discriminate against Black communities and businesses to begin with.
I too will reserve my cynicism, but I'll keep my spectisim alive.
